BI TRAININGS:
Course: #BI-2D - DW Hybrid: key to significantly reduce your EDW TCO (2 days).
Developed before the era of Big Data, this course covers the foundational concepts that remain highly relevant today — particularly as they describe what the consumption zone of a modern Lakehouse should look like.
We created the ITA&S-H hybrid DW architecture to:
- Reduce the amount of data movement from sources to EDW to datamarts
- Increase agility
- Reduce costs — TCO reduction comes from dramatically fewer tables, which directly translates into fewer ETL processes and lower overall costs
- Enable near real-time data warehouse builds — simplified by having only a single set of ETL/ELT processes to maintain
The ITA&S-H architecture resembles a constellation of snowflakes with the addition of conventional normalized data structures — called EDW Extensions. It is a hybrid of the EDW and Datamart architecture merged into a single database model, with a series of deliberate enhancements:
- Fact adjustment records via reversal and new record (compensation)
- Conformed Dimensions with the principle of the lowest level
- Multiple anchor points in a single dimension
- Automated Dimensional Recasting
- Denormalized Snowflakes
We have successfully applied the ITA&S-H approach across:
- Traditional BI projects — multiple deployments
- Data Lakes on Hadoop — multiple deployments
- Lakehouses on Azure — multiple deployments
